While Halloween is still over a week away, it isn’t too early to start thinking about holiday sales for your business. Due to COVID-19, eCommerce has grown tremendously this year. In fact, Adobe reported that in the month of May 2020 alone the total online spending reached $82.5 billion1. With the holiday season around the corner and uncertainty from the pandemic still looming, it is vital that you start planning your digital marketing strategy now in order to best prepare for holiday sales. How can you do this? We have four options for you to consider.
Plan different promotions
Promotions and sales for the holiday season require in-depth planning. You do not want to be winging it the week of Thanksgiving and hoping that whatever you come up with works out. If you start planning now then you will be able to streamline your social media content, your email marketing, and your ad campaigns. Be mindful of the different “sale holidays” such as Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. Do you want to have a different promo code and discount for each day? Would you rather have a five day sale period with the same promo code and discount? What do your customers and clients celebrate? There are many religious and secular holidays in November and December to keep in mind. Do you want to run ads to highlight your promo codes and sales, particular products and/or services, or a mix? What will the focus of your email campaigns be? These are the important questions that you want to start answering now.
Run ads on social media
Organic social media is a great way to engage with the people that already follow your business. Ad campaigns enable your brand, services, and products to reach people beyond your current followers. (To learn more about the difference between organic and paid social media, check out our blog about it.) Running ad campaigns will allow you to highlight special holiday promotions, new products, and more.
Implement an email marketing strategy
Email marketing will be an enormous asset before and during the holiday season. Spend time growing your email audience so that you are able to plan and create email campaigns that highlight your sales, specials, and important updates for your customers and clients. For example, you can offer exclusive promo codes via email and give your email list early access to new inventory.
