Setting up social media accounts for your business can get confusing, especially if you’ve never done it before.

But don’t worry! In this post, we’re going to reveal the top 3 things you need to prioritize when setting up and optimizing your social media accounts – so you can reach more people, attract more readers, and eventually generate sales through social media.

1. Your Custom Social Media Handle

Social media handles may not look like much at first glance, but they actually play a huge role in your online branding. Believe me; you wouldn’t want your business to be identified as a string of numbers on social. It’s unsightly, unprofessional, and might turn off your potential customers.

When you’re just setting up your accounts, you need to decide what your handle should be – and get this: it should be consistent across all your social media platforms.

There are a few ways you can pick a custom handle for your social media accounts. The easiest way is to use a shortened version of your business name. But in cases wherein your desired social media handle is already taken in at least one platform, you can always think of something close to your preferred handle.

If you’re a local business, you can add your city or the area you serve to your social media handle. On the other hand, if you’re running a personal brand, you may add “iam” as a prefix to your custom handle.

The important thing here is to establish a social media handle that’s aligned with your brand.

2. Your About Section

Your About Section is where you want to give your customers an idea of who you are, what you do, and what you stand for.

You may have a lot of things to say about yourself and your business, but it’s essential to know that there’s a limit to how much information you can include depending on the platform. For instance, on Instagram, you can only write 150 characters in your bio, while you are only allowed 160 characters on Twitter.

In the About Section – again, depending on the limits – you can include your company’s mission, vision, unique value proposition, and values. And don’t forget to fill out business hours and other necessary contact information!

Remember, your About Section is prime real estate and can be the first thing your customers see on your social media accounts. So make sure you fill it out well!

3. Your Cover Photo

Your cover photo is another prime real estate that you don’t want to miss out on. It could be the first image customers see when they visit your profile. That’s why it should be consistent with your branding.

While you can’t include a ton of text in the cover photo, you can use imagery, graphics, and a few other elements to make your brand stand out. Think of a cover photo as your very own billboard, where you can display your brand, including your logo, slogan, social media profiles, and website.

Remember, your cover photo is among the first things your readers see when they visit your profile, so make sure it’s appealing, professional-looking, and consistent with your visual branding.

Bottom Line

Social media is a powerful way to get your brand in front of the right people. But before you can dive into the nitty-gritty of social media marketing, you need to make sure that your accounts are ready for promotion.
