Blossom is a 100% remote company so we are well versed in the work from home necessities. Recently, our team discussed what our remote work must-haves are and we found that many of them overlapped. We are excited to share our must-have items with you this month.
A Dedicated Office Space
Having a space that is just for work is essential when you work from home. Ideally, you have a door that closes for this space so when you’re working you don’t hear any outside noise and when you’re done for the day you can close the door as you exit. Without a daily commute, opening and closing our office doors serves as a replacement.
Blue Light Blocking Glasses
It’s no secret that when you’re looking at screens all day your eyes get tired. We have found that wearing blue light blocking glasses helps to combat that. We like Zenni glasses because they offer both prescription and non-prescription blue light blocking lenses.
Comfortable Desk and Desk Chair
Desks and desk chairs preference vary greatly depending on each person. Each member on our team has a very different desk, chair, and set up but the key is that they all work for us individually. Be sure that your desk and chair provide the space and comfort you need to work effectively and efficiently.
Slippers
Many of our team members wear slippers during our work day! While our slippers vary, one of our team members loves these slippers because they are supportive, comfortable, and have lasted over three years.
Daily Planner
A planner to keep track of your daily, weekly, and monthly to-dos is essential. Each member on our team plans differently. Some of us use traditional paper and pen planners, while others use digital tools like Trello. We also have a shared Blossom calendar to help us keep track of each other’s schedules.
A Good Playlist
Our team loves music and podcasts which means that we love Spotify. Each of us play different types of music or podcasts during work time but we can all find what we like on Spotify with ease. It also makes sharing songs with each other easy, too!
Large Water Bottle
Water is so important to our team. So much so that many of us have huge water bottles that we use throughout the day to stay hydrated. Having a full water bottle on or near your desk is a simple way to keep your daily water intake up.
Laptop Stand
We love a great laptop stand because they keep from hunching over by having your screen at eye level. When you’re looking at a screen for multiple hours a day this is important! We should note that if you invest in a laptop stand then a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard will be needed, too. (They are also fantastic to have so we highly recommend them!)
Coffee
Last, but not certainly not least, coffee is a must-have on our team. For hot coffee, we use insulated mugs and for iced coffee, we head to the nearest Starbucks, Panera, or Dunkin’.
