Remote work has become the new normal for many of us. While there are many positives to working from home, it can take a toll on you mentally and physically. Our team at Blossom is 100% remote and we have some tips to help you out!

1. Keep Your Routine

This sounds obvious, but with a little discipline, you can avoid treating each day like it’s a Saturday. If you normally shower in the morning and have a coffee, continue to do that. If you always pick your clothes out at night for the next day, do that. Whatever you are used to doing, keep doing! While you may want to give in to the temptation to stay in your PJs, you will find that dressing for your job often makes you more productive.

2. Take Breaks

When removed from an office setting it can be easy to sit at your desk for hours at a time without moving. Taking breaks is key! A short walk in the fresh air not only gets your body moving but also gives your brain a rest. If the weather prevents you from getting outside then walk around the house or put on some music and dance to a song. You will come back to your tasks refreshed.

3. Communicate Clearly

This is important, especially in remote work. Without the ability to pop over to someone’s desk to quickly clarify something you must make an extra effort to be extremely clear and detailed when interacting with your coworkers, especially in your written communication.

4. Exercise or Meditate

Working from home can create a more sedentary environment, but it does not have to! Take advantage of the opportunity to get in your favorite types of exercise from walking the dog, to swinging kettlebells, to streaming a yoga flow. Another great option is to meditate. There are so many apps that can help guide you through long or short meditations. Exercise or meditation will help you feel recharged.

5. Drink Water

Water keeps you hydrated and helps you to stay focused, too. Try to find a bottle or cup that helps you keep track of your water intake or make a goal to drink a certain amount of ounces per day. Coffee can be a workday go-to drink but maybe try a cup of herbal tea instead a few days a week.

6. Set Boundaries

Our work lives and personal lives have already started to blur with so many work-related things on our personal devices. It is vital that you set clear boundaries for yourself so that you can separate your work from your time off. Just because you are working from home does not mean you need to immediately reply to an email that you received at 10pm. (Unless your normal work hours include 10pm, of course!) You want to keep spaces in your home that are work free areas, too.

These are not hard and fast rules and everyone’s remote work lifestyle will look a little different. The key is to find what works for you and stick to it. We hope that these tips will help and inspire you to make the most of your remote work!
